Some of you will probably have an old second PC or laptop and use it in a similar way. One thing you do want when using a system that you know is going to have issues, is a complete backup of the operation system.
Unfortunately, I put the recovery files on a slow stick and it took forever to boot into the backup software. It was then I remembered that there exists the ability to take an ISO image and get it to boot from hard drive using the Windows Vista and 7 Boot Manager. This would make booting into the recovery environment far quicker and also removes the need to use a CD or plug in a USB stick every time. The option to be looked at here is the ISO function which will put an entry into the boot menu and then boot from the ISO you have selected.
Firstly start the program, you will begin in the View settings window which shows the current entries in the Boot Manager. Select Run from Disk for anything bigger. Point to the ISO file you want to boot from in the Path: box. If you go back to the View settings window, the new entry should now be entered into the list. Close EasyBCD.
Apart from storing files floppy disks were also used to perform the system recovery tasks. Now floppy disks are on the verge of extinction but there are still some scenarios where you need floppy based diagnostic utilities. The best option is to create a bootable CD with all the main features of bootable floppy disks which will have all the utilities you require for system backup and recovery on one single CD. Even if you do have a floppy drive, it is still much much faster to run your diagnostic tools from the CDROM drive, rather than wait for the tool to load from the floppy drive.
Consolidate as many diagnostic tools as possible into one bootable CD.
